Fly Rods
We offer the very best from Sage Fly Rods, R.L. Winston Fly Rods, St Croix and Thomas and Thomas Fly Rods.
Making your selection:The first step in determining the proper fly rod is deciding the type of fishing you plan to do. Small streams, smaller fish would generally call for a shorter fly rod and lighter line. With line weights ranging from "0" to "15", and lengths of 7' to 9'6" a good choice for small streams may be a 7'6" or 8' 3- or 4-wt fly rod. Bigger rivers or lakes, with, larger trout, bass, pike or even light saltwater fishing requires a little beefier set-up, like an 8'6" or 9' 5-, 6- or 7-wt fly rod.
Action or flex of the fly rod describes the bend in the rod when "loaded" during the cast. "Slower" action fly rods bend more towards the middle of the rod, while "fast" action fly rods flex more at the tip. The action you choose usually evolves from a preference to your personal style of casting, although many people enjoy a slower action fly rod for delicate presentations and fast action fly rods for big streamers and wind resistant dries.
At Bud Lilly's Trout Shop we stock wide variety of fly rods from "ultra light" small stream fly rods to "light saltwater" fly rods. We can also special order other models for your special needs. Fly rods from Sage, Winston and Thomas & Thomas all carry a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.
